For more than 1000 years there has been a substantial building on the site of the present house. The sentinel location reflects its` purpose guarding the medieval quay below. This provided access to the monastic foundation at South Wembury.

Nowadays, 'Thorn House & Garden' offers a wonderful venue for weddings, garden parties and special events. The garden is open to the public by appointment, and can be guided by the Gibson family, in English or German.
